Company alleges competitor infringed on Jaz, Zip drive patents
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Iomega Corp. said it is suing rival SyQuest Technology Inc., charging the computer storage device maker with infringing on patents obtained for its Zip and Jaz removable disk drives.
In a complaint filed late Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Delaware, Iomega charges SyQuest with selling products without its authorization which use its patented inventions. The complaint maintains SyQuest infringed on patents covering its read/write protection and the design of its Jaz drive cartridge.
"This is a simple case of protecting Iomega's intellectual property," said Kim Edwards, Iomega president and chief executive officer.
In the lawsuit, Iomega is also asking the court to prevent SyQuest from using its JET trademarks. Iomega maintains SyQuest started using the syJet designation for its products more than a yet after it adopted and began using the JET trademark.
Iomega is asking the court to issue an injunction and to award monetary damages.
