NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Advanced Micro Devices Inc. Monday won a battle against chip industry leader Intel Corp. when IBM announced it would include its K6 microprocessor in a portion of the new line of Aptiva personal computers.
Terms of the pact weren't announced. However, the deal sent AMD shares up 4 to 41-1/2 on the New York Stock Exchange.
IBM said it soon will announce which Aptiva models will include the K6.
"After exhaustive review and testing, we have concluded that the K6 processor has met IBM's standards for quality, reliability and industry compatibility," said James A. Firestone, general manager of IBM's consumer division.
