NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Each Friday at 1 p.m. ET, CNNfn viewers are invited to call in to the "Talking Stocks" segment and ask the guest expert questions about equities. Here are responses to your e-mails by Peter Cardillo, director of research at Westfalia Investments.
    Name: Debbie, Pennsylvania
Question: I am looking to buy one of these three stocks, Exodus (EXDS), Yahoo! (YHOO), PSINet (PSIX). Which would you recommend?
Cardillo: I would be a buyer of Yahoo!, but not at these levels. Yahoo! is one of the Internet stocks that will be around for a while. These stocks are too high, though, so I'd wait for a pullback before buying.
    Name: David, Florida
Question: Office Max  (OMX) announced it is looking into a tracking stock and selling shares to the public. What is this and will it benefit existing holders of Office Max?
Cardillo: Well, obviously that's a way of getting the stock price up. It's a small-cap stock and it's basically trading in between its range. I'm positive on it for the long-term.
    Name: Bert, Virginia
Question: What is the general outlook for foreign internet stocks such as Star Media  (STRM) in Latin America and Internet Initiative of Japan  (IIJI) in Asia?
Cardillo: These international Internet companies are only at their early stages and are just becoming noticeable. These stocks in Japan and Europe have finally caught on fire, even though they have some valuations problems.
    Name: Ernesto, Venezuela
Question: I have software as part of my portfolio. Can you please comment on Siebl Systems (SEBL)?
Cardillo: The stock is trading near the high end of the range. I'd take a cautious approach -- take profits and look to replace it at lower levels...
    Name: Patrick, Texas
Question: What do you think of the earning s for Dell Computer Corp.  (DELL) for the next quarter? And why is it that different stockbrokers have different views on DELL? How do you know who to listen to!!!
Cardillo: I personally like the company and I'd be a buyer of DELL at any levels, even at this level... My view is that the company is at an uptick, and expect that their earnings will be good next quarter.
    Name: Jason, Pennsylvania
Question: I'm interested in buying America Online  (AOL) stock, but when do you think it will bottom out?
Cardillo: The stock is in a bottoming process right now... Of course, if we get a wave of selling in the technology sector, it can go even lower. My recommendation is: If you're long, stay long; if not, don't commit all of all your purchasing power at this time.
    Name: Sayeed
Question: What is the long- and short-term prospect of Satyam Infoway  (SIFY), and Broadvision Inc. (BVSN)?
Cardillo: SIFY is an Internet access company in India. It looks like the stock is approaching the high-end of its trading range. From a valuation stand-point, it is a little overvalued. I'd take some profits.
As for Broadvision -- again, this is a great company, and it has earnings, although valuations might be approaching the higher end (it went from 10 to 72 in such short time!). It really depends on the entry point he has. I like the company and the management is good. But I wouldn't mind taking some profits.
    Name: Sammer, California
Question: Why have financial stocks sold off and what are reasons for which a lot of "experts" think it's time for a recovery in this sector? Washington Mutual (WM) looks great on paper but the stock is taking a beating...
Cardillo: Obviously, the back-up in interest rates has hurt the financial stocks. I believe they are bottoming out. As soon as we see interest rates peak they will recover and I'd be a buyer of major financial stocks. This stock is making new lows, their earnings were not that great... I'd be a buyer down here.
    Name: Robert El-Najjar, Dubai,
Question: What is your advice on EMC Corp.  (EMC) buy, sell short term or long?
Cardillo: The stock is at new high here.. I'd be inclined to take some profits at these levels. The stock is way up, it more than doubled from its yearly low.
    Name: Mike, Canada
    Question: Microsoft (MSFT)?
Cardillo: This company is going to be a winner either way. I'm a long-term buyer of Microsoft on any pullbacks. It will be a winner no mater what happens...
    Name: Tomas, Minnesota
    Question: CMGI Inc. (CMGI)
Cardillo: The stock is split now, trading at 120... On any major pullback, I'd be a buyer of this stock. The stock could possibly get under 100 again soon.
Question: I own Hewlett Packard  (HWP) and soon will own Agilent Technologies (A). What is your short (6 mo.) and long (3 to 5 year) forecast? This is the bulk of my retirement (2003) money.
Cardillo: The stock is trading near the high here. It's a great company, I'd hold it. But I think someone should never have all their eggs in one basket, even though Hewlett Packard is a good company. But by the same token, one should not risk all their retirement money in one place.
    Name: JoAnn, Washington State
Question: Is United Parcel Service  (UPS) a good stock to buy, and will there be another possible split of stocks later in the year?
Cardillo: UPS is a great company. The stock has been holding right in the middle of its range since it began trading, especially in the middle of this economy.
    Name: Jatin, Illinois
Question: Please, comment on the 3-6 month price range for Lucent Technologies (LU).
Cardillo: Lucent is a great company. The stock was up today, even though they reported lower earnings. But I think it's pretty much done, near the lower part of the range. Most of the bad news is out. I'd be a buyer here.
    Name: Amit, Illinois
Question: MCI Worldcom (WCOM), Amgen (AMGN), how would you rate these stocks for the long term?
Cardillo: MCI -- I'd be a buyer at these levels... After the split, it's forming a base. It will appreciate to the 75-80 level.
Amgen -- a biotech company. It's currently near its high. It will run up with the rest of the biotech sector, it could move a bit higher. Back to top
