Resources for massage therapists to build a successful startup

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Dear Jane: Three of us are about to open a therapeutic massage clinic. How can we make sure we have all the bases covered when it comes to taxes, incorporation, insurance, etc.?
You are smart to want to start your business right from the start. First, I would recommend setting up an appointment for free counseling, either online or in person, with a counselor from the Service Corps of Retired Executives. These retired business people have helped thousands of new business owners set their businesses up right. You can find a counselor at www.score.org.
I would also recommend a good book called, "Small Time Operator: How to Start Your Own Business, Keep Your Books, Pay Your Taxes and Stay Out of Trouble," by Bernard Kamoroff, CPA. A newly revised edition is due out in September, but you can find the current edition of his best-selling book and the companion software at Amazon.com, or order it directly from Bell Springs Press, (800) 515-8050. He wrote another great book called "422 Tax Deductions for Businesses and Self-Employed Individuals," that's packed with tips and deductions most people have never heard of. For insurance issues, check out "Smarter Insurance Solutions," by Janet Bamford (Bloomberg Press).
If you belong to a professional association of therapists, find out if they have any sort of support or information for newcomers. Try to speak with some veteran therapists to get their advice on insights. The more information you have, the fewer problems you'll encounter along the way.
