NEW YORK (CNNfn) - McDonald's, the world's largest hamburger restaurant chain, plans to enter the hospitality business by opening two hotels in Switzerland in March 2001.

The establishments will be called the Golden Arch Hotels. One hotel will have 211 rooms and the other will have 80 rooms. The four-star hotels will target business travelers during the week and families and young adults on the weekends.

graphic"... Innovation is an integral part of our vision for McDonald's in the 21st century", said Jack Greenberg, chairman and CEO of the McDonald's Corporation, in a video message shown during a media conference last week to announce the new plans.

The hotels will also offer special Internet rates for  travelers who book the rooms over the www.goldenarchhotel.com/   homepage.

"Golden Arch opens a new business field for us and is a new stand-alone brand. At the same time we will be able to use synergies with our restaurant business regarding the customers, logistics and human resources," said Urs Hammer, chairman and CEO of McDonald's Suisse Holding, in a statement. graphic
