If you can't afford holiday bonuses, training is a way to reward employees

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Even if you can't afford big holiday bonuses this year, consider rewarding hardworking employees by offering to pay for training or educational programs.
Community colleges, adult education programs and private centers like the Learning Annex, offer a plethora of interesting, innovative and low-cost seminars.
Set a budget and be fair when it comes to offering employees equal access to training perks.
Don't limit people to taking job-related courses. A stress-busting yoga class or Spanish lessons can benefit you and your employee.
Although people may choose to sign up for classes individually, you might consider hiring a professional trainer and sharing the cost with another small business owner.
Jane Applegate, a syndicated columnist and author of 201 Great Ideas for Your Small Business, covers small business for CNNfn.
