As economy cools down, Congress prepares to mull tax cuts

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - One of the first items on the agenda for the 107th Congress is tax cuts. President-elect Bush is trying to build support for a $1.3 trillion across-the-board tax cut.

There's even talk of making the tax cut effective sooner to help encourage more spending. Some lawmakers want to make any tax cut passed this year retroactive to Jan. 1 to help give the slowing economy a quick jolt.
