Report: Two new discrimination suits filed against software maker
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Microsoft Corp. reportedly faces two new lawsuits accusing it of racial discrimination, one of them filed by former O.J. Simpson defense attorney Johnnie Cochran.
Cochran filed suit at the U.S. District Court in Seattle Thursday on behalf of Landruff Trent, saying Microsoft used discriminatory evaluation and promotion practices, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday in its online edition.
Former Microsoft employee Ronald Douglas filed another suit Wednesday, alleging he got less pay and fewer stock options from the Redmond, Wash.-based software maker than white employees, according to the report.
Microsoft was not available for comment, but a spokesman defended the company's practices to the Journal and said minorities make up nearly 22 percent of its U.S. work force.
The maker of Windows, Outlook and other software programs already is the defendant in a race- and gender-discrimination suit filed in October by former employee Monique Donaldson and another suit seeking $5 billion in damages filed in January by seven current and former employees, the report said.
Microsoft (MSFT: Research, Estimates) shares closed Friday at $57.31, down $1.50.
