NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Drugmaker Pfizer Inc. reconfirmed earnings guidance for 2001 and 2002 Tuesday, citing strong top-line performance.
Pfizer (PFE: Research, Estimates) expects 2001 diluted earnings per share between $1.27 and $1.30, and 2002 diluted earnings per share of $1.56 or better. The numbers match previous guidance given by the company in April for 2001 and March for 2002.
Analysts surveyed by First Call expect the company to earn $1.31 on average for 2001, with the estimates ranging from $1.28 to $1.34. For 2002, analysts predict earnings of $1.59, with a range of $1.56 to $1.64.
In April, Pfizer beat first-quarter forecasts by 2 cents a share, reporting income of $2.13 billion, or 33 cents a share, excluding one-time items and merger-related costs, up from $1.58 billion, or 25 cents a share, a year earlier.
The company released its statement ahead of remarks by its chairman and CEO planned for Wednesday at the Sanford Bernstein Strategic Decisions Conference in New York.
The stock fell 52 cents to $42.95 Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
