IBM to include Lucent products in its Global Services offerings

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Lucent Technologies has inked a pact with IBM under which Big Blue will offer Lucent products through its services division, the companies said Tuesday.
Under the terms of their agreement, which is expected to be rolled out internationally in the next few weeks, IBM will offer Lucent's data networking, optical and wireless products to its IBM Global Services clients.
The agreement will significantly expand Lucent's worldwide sales presence, and executives said they expect it to add several hundred million dollars in revenue to both companies over the next two years.
The companies did not provide specific financial terms of the pact.
"Customers increasingly are looking for partners that can help them deploy end-to-end comprehensive, services-led solutions while maintaining quality, reliability and speed," said Carlos da Fonte, IBM alliance director for IBM Global Services.
"By leveraging our strength in networking, IT applications and infrastructure, we can work with Lucent to provide comprehensive, integrated solutions to meet customer demands," he added.
Lucent said it will offer its wireless, data, and optical products for services such as virtual private networks or voice-over-Internet networks. For its part, IBM said it will contribute e-business, e-business infrastructure, and business management solutions.
The Lucent products will be specifically targeted at IBM Global Services' networking-service provider and enterprise customers, the companies said.
Shares of IBM (IBM: down $1.36 to $116.00, Research, Estimates) were down 1.4 percent in New York Stock Exchange trade early Tuesday. Lucent (LU: down $0.15 to $7.89, Research, Estimates) shares also were on the decline, slipping nearly 2.5 percent.
