NEW YORK (CNNfn) - If you are looking to invest for your child's college education, you might want to consider a 529 plan. Under the new tax bill the 529 plan becomes a great way for American families to put money for college over a long period of time.

Dan Kadlec, Wall Street columnist for Time Magazine, talks with CNNfn about the 529 plan. The 529 plan is the way to go simply because, beginning next year, withdrawals will be tax-free, Kadlec said. Some plans have the added benefit of being tax-deductible on the state level, he added.
