NEW YORK (CNN/Money) -
United Airlines will lay off an additional 704 flight attendants due to continuing flight reductions and services changes as the No. 2 U.S. airline struggles to cut costs while in bankruptcy, CNNfn confirmed Friday.
A notice on the flight attendants' Web site said the flight reductions and service changes left the company with a surplus of attendants.
When asked if there are additional layoffs in other divisions, United (UAL: down $0.04 to $1.14, Research, Estimates) spokesman Rich Nelson said, "No, not necessarily." The 704 flight attendant layoffs were not part of the reductions announced in November.
