Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS: $330
The Nuvi boots up slowly, but its interface is highly responsive and intuitive. The 3.5-inch screen, while small, is crisp and bright. In my experience, GPS units often lose their satellite signal in densely populated areas. The Nuvi rarely seems to have that problem. Battery life is exceptional: If I charge the Nuvi overnight, I can usually make it through a full day of meetings. And the Nuvi's small size - four by three inches - allows it to migrate easily from rental car to briefcase. (I would even say it's pocket-compatible.)
Like most GPS devices, the Nuvi saves your most visited locations and can pinpoint nearby attractions and restaurants. It also plays audiobooks and PowerPoint presentations, if you have those files stored on a flash card. If Garmin could accelerate the Nuvi's boot-up time and add the ability to program multiple destinations on a single trip, this unit would be close to perfect.
