Total price for two: $1,450 (including lift tickets)

You'll save a lot on lift and lodging packages if you choose Crested Butte over the more well-known Breckenridge, says Dan Sherman of Ski.com. A five-night stay with lift tickets at the Grand Lodge Crested Butte Hotel -- a 238-room resort located 150 yards from the lifts -- costs $725 per person, based on quadruple occupancy, if you book by Nov. 23.

Though the mountain is smaller than Breckenridge, it has about the same percentage of expert trails (31% vs. 32%).

Non-skiers can ice skate and go tubing at nearby Adventure Park. If you book through Ski.com and buy three tickets, you're eligible for an airfare credit of up to $400.
