The Benz Patent Motorwagen is generally credited as being the world's first gasoline-powered car. This precise replica was created by Mercedes-Benz. It's now housed at the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Irvine, Calif., where valuable classic Mercedes cars are restored. Even with only three-quarters of one horsepower, it was a little scary to drive, seated up so high with only rudimentary controls.
