This was considered the world's fastest car in its day. Ferdinand Porsche was Mercedes-Benz's chief engineer when the Typ S, powered by a massive 6.7-liter supercharged 6-cylinder engine, was created. ("Typ" is German for "Type.") The supercharger, which comes into play only when the gas pedal is pressed firmly to the floor, boosts the engine's output from 120 to 180 horsepower.
