EOG Resources thinks about its employees well after they're retired.
Regardless of employee contribution, the Texas-based gas and oil company shells out a 100% match to employee 401k plans, up to 6% of their salary. And while engineers make plenty, the bulk of EOG's full-time salaried employees, operations assistants, get decently paid too. The average base salary is $36,428 per year, but they also get a cash bump averaging $38,001 (or 104% of their salary).
Top performers also get lump-sum cash awards. Each year, supervisors recognize outstanding employees through its Personal Best Awards. In 2011, the company awarded 154 awards totaling $213,000, an average of $1,500.
In its 16th year, Fortune's ranking of the best workplaces in corporate America welcomes five list debutantes, and what's more, 78 of them are looking to fill nearly 67,000 jobs.
