When a company is ready to expand -- either with more office space or a new retail store -- it turns to a real estate development manager to scout and secure the right spot. The manager negotiates the property's lease or purchase and oversees construction until the space is move-in ready.

Why it's great: There's satisfaction in hunting for the perfect location and then getting the best possible deal on it. "I really enjoy the art of negotiation," says real estate development manager William Smith. "It's all about getting that piece of property for the price that you want."
