Job growth (2000-2011):
10.2%
The secret to Garfield County's job growth? Location, location, location. Positioned practically in the middle of the United States, it's an attractive base for trucking and transport firms, such as tank-truck carrier Groendyke, as well as manufacturing and distribution companies.
The city of Enid is the hub of business activity. Energy, education and health care are growing, and Vance Air Force Base is a major employer as well. Top-notch schools and low crime rates are drawing families, while a lively downtown is a lure for young professionals.
The region is likely to get an added boost from a new conference and events center that is slated to open in 2013. The $25 million complex in downtown Enid will provide 52,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
