With a pedigree older than the nation's capital, Alexandria is no ordinary Beltway 'burb. Parts of this upscale city don't look like they've changed a whole lot in the last 250 years.
Along the cobblestoned streets of Old Town, do a little antiquing or people-watch along its Potomac River waterfront. Despite the neighborhood's name, its singles don't turn in too early. Step out and mingle at one of Old Town's numerous pubs, clubs or lounges for trivia, dancing or sing-along piano bars.
