Thanks to one of the largest conglomerations of hospitals and health facilities in the state, Sandy Springs boasts a prosperous population of doctors, as well as executives drawn to high-paying jobs at Fortune 500 companies Newell Rubbermaid and UPS, both headquartered here.
But jobs aren't the only draw. Sandy Springs has taken an unusual approach to many of its city services, such as trash collection and its city court, outsourcing them to private companies. The result: less debt and a suburb that runs like a finely oiled machine. Boating and fishing on the Chattahoochee River (it bounds the city on two sides) round out the recipe for Southern success.
