Sorry, social media fanatics. Twitter (TWTR) is also off limits.

Analysts say Beijing was particularly unnerved by the role social media played in the Arab Spring and the 2009 Green Revolution in Iran, leading to a blackout for the microblogging service.

That didn't stop Twitter from hiring a senior executive in China in an effort to attract more advertising dollars. But the exec -- Kathy Chen -- stepped down at the end of 2016, after just eight months in the job.
