How much can I contribute to a 403(b)?

You can contribute a maximum of $18,000 in 2016 if you are younger than 50 years old. If you are 50 or older, you can make an additional catch-up contribution of as much as $6,000, for a total of up to $24,000. Those contribution limits are scheduled to adjust annually in line with inflation.

Employees who have worked for the same nonprofit for 15 years may also have access to an additional “catch up provision” of $3,000 per year for up to five years, if they contributed an average of less than $5,000 per year previously.
